I’m going in for breast surgery – what should I take to the hospital?
If you’re about to have breast or chest surgery, it’s important to find the right bra to take into
hospital as you’ll be wearing it in the days/weeks immediately after your operation. Your bra will be
worn on a delicate and sensitive area, so it’s worth dedicating time to getting professionally fitted.
Three bras in our range are suitable for wearing immediately after surgery – the Comfi-Bra, Eden and
the Silver Post Surgery Bra. As well as being wirefree, they also provide light compression to help
reduce swelling and promote healing. The front-fastening also makes it easier to remove or get
dressed.
I’ve had breast surgery – what type of bra do I need to buy?
Whether you’ve had a breast augmentation, reduction or lumpectomy you should look for a
wirefree bra that doesn’t restrict blood flow to the surgery site, and keeps you cool and comfortable.
An underwired bra may irritate or dig into the delicate scar tissue. If you’ve had a mastectomy and
wish to wear a prosthesis, the pocketed bras in our Post-Surgery range are ideal. After 6-8 weeks,
and once your scars have healed, you’ll have a wider range to choose from – our everyday Comfort
range of wirefree bras provide superb comfort and can be pocketed if required.
Why is the Silver Post Surgery bra recommended for after surgery?
The Silver Post Surgery Bra is specifically designed to help care for your surgery site. It contains real
silver fibre which has anti-bacterial properties and can aid the recovery of scar tissue. The
underband of this bra is designed to fit well below the root of the breast so that it doesn’t irritate
any surgery scars (particularly helpful if you’ve had breast implants). Other clever design features
include front-fastening for easy dressing and access to surgery areas, Velcro straps with touch-and-
close fastening for comfort and easy adjustment, and double-layer cups for added support.
How should I get fitted with a prothesis?
Once your healing process is well underway, it’s time to get a new bra which fits perfectly under
your clothes, helping you get back to looking and feeling great again. If you have a prosthesis,
choose a Royce pocketed bra fitted to your natural breast size. The bra should comfortably support
your natural breast while holding the prosthesis securely within the bra pocket. We recommend
trying on a T-shirt when fitting to check that the bra provides a smooth shape and balanced
silhouette under clothing.
Can you add pockets to my bra?
A pocketing service is available for most bras in our range at an additional charge of £5 per pocket.
Pockets added after manufacturer are flat, i.e. they aren’t made in the shape of the cup, but sit flat
against the chest wall. We’re unable to pocket our Impact Free Sports bra, with the exception of the
Flex Fit which is pocketed as standard, or any bras by other brands. All bras in the Post-Surgery range
come pocketed as standard.
What pocketed bras do you have available for fuller cups?
Maisie is available up to a G cup and comes with pockets as standard. Beautifully comfortable and
stylish too, Maisie is a great smooth-cup bra in soft fabric with satin detailing. For ladies over a G
cup, pockets can be added to Luna (available up to a K cup) or Charlotte (available up to an L cup).
