I’m pregnant…when should I buy my first maternity bra?
You should shop for maternity bras as soon as your normal bras start to feel tight or uncomfortable. It’s a good idea to get fitted for your first wirefree maternity bra around 6-8 weeks into your pregnancy, and again every 6-8 weeks after that. Start wearing your maternity bra on the tightest eye fastening so you can move to a looser fastening as your breasts grow.
How will my bra size/breasts change and when?
You may start to notice changes in your breasts almost straightaway (sore, tingling, tender breasts can be one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy). Your changing body shape will mean your bra size can change several times during your pregnancy. Hormonal changes can make your breasts more sensitive, and they may also feel ‘lumpy’ as the milk duct system develops.
Why is a good supportive bra so important in pregnancy?
Because of the rapid changes happening to your body, it’s really important to get a well-fitted, supportive maternity bra for this time of your life. Ill-fitting bras and underwired bras can potentially damage the delicate breast tissue. The breasts contain no muscles so it’s important to make sure you’re well supported by the bra.
When should I buy my first bra for nursing/breastfeeding?
To ensure an accurate fit, we recommend you buy your first nursing bra 2-4 weeks before you baby is due. Don’t forget to leave enough room for breast pads, and to allow for a small increase in breast size when your milk “comes in”. You can always wear your nursing bra as a support bra during the last few weeks of your pregnancy, bearing in mind that your ribcage will shrink after birth. Our maternity bra ‘Blossom’ allows for growth of up to three cup sizes in one bra – great for pregnancy and for breastfeeding when your breasts will naturally fluctuate in size.
